The Consulate General can renew Driver’s License only to residents of its jurisdiction who are enrolled with A.I.R.E. or to those who have been in Australia for at least six months (evidence will be provided by the most recent stamp on arrival in the country on the applicant’s passport).

THIS CONSULATE GENERAL CANNOT:
- Issue duplicates of driver license
A driver license duplicate can only be issued by the Italian Motorization Civil (Italian Dept. of Motor Transport) offices in Italy. In case of theft or loss of a license it is therefore advisable to contact the Motorization Civil in Italy to ascertain what are the documents required to obtain a duplicate.
If in this context an authentication of a signature for a proxy or authentication of photos will be needed, you can visit the Consulate without an appointment to obtain this service.
- Issue or renew an International driver permit.
Issue certificates or declaration of any type.
Only the offices of the Italian Motorization Civil can issue certifications and/or declarations concerning driving records, what kind of motor vehicles one can drive with a “B” Class license, the expiry or the renewal of a driver license.
WHAT YOU NEED TO RENEW A DRIVER’S LICENSE:
Have a medical check done by one of our authorized doctors;
Lodge at the Consulate the prescribed medical certificate, within three months of the medical check up, together with a passport size photo;
Bring with you the original of the license to be renewed;
You will have to attend in person the consular office. No appointment is needed.

DRIVER’S LICENSES CAN BE RENEWED FOR:
10 years: For people under 50 years
5 years: For people aged between 50 and 70
3 years: For people over 70 years of age
It must be made clear that this renewal certificate issued by the Consulate will temporarily substitute the official endorsement of validity only for the period of residence abroad. Once back in Italy, the normal renewal procedure must be followed, as provided by ART. 126 PARAGRAPH 5 OF CODICE DELLA STRADA.
